Recapping the 2022 RISE Summit on SDOH

The RISE Summit on Social Determinants of Health is one of the best events of the year exclusively focused on SDOH, and the 2022 conference was especially meaningful for multiple reasons. First, it was extremely refreshing to start seeing so many familiar faces in person again, and just as great making new connections with all the people who stopped by our booth. In addition, Socially Determined had the honor of moderating a panel with three health plan leaders that are among the most advanced users of our Social Risk Intelligence™ solutions giving the audience a deep and insightful conversation to learn from.

Our chief solutions officer, Ashley Perry, led the discussion alongside R.J. Briscione, senior director of social determinants of health strategy and execution at Aetna, a CVS Health Company, Hosanna Asfaw-Means, director of community health and social impact in Maryland for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, and Brian McLane, senior director of marketing intelligence and digital products at Priority Health.

It's been a busy March for the Socially Determined team. We started the month at the ViVE event in Miami Beach, trekked further North to HIMSS Global Conference in Orlando, then visited Philadelphia for Pharma USA 2022, and finally landed in Nashville for the RISE SDOH Summit. While our president, Ryan Bosch, moderated the Global Health Equity Symposium at HIMSS with great success, the singular focus on SDOH and depth of the three-day RISE event was second to none.

As an example of the high-quality discussions over the multi-day event, the panel with Socially Determined, Aetna, CareFirst and Priority Health was titled “Design, Implement, Evaluate and Scale Impactful SDOH Programs with Social Risk Analytics.” During the session, panelists talked about their real-world experiences using Social Risk Intelligence™ in many facets of their organizations, and how they plan to apply it in the future.

R.J. from Aetna talked about using new insights for Medicaid RFPs to show how they can tailor programs at a granular level; Brian from Priority Health talked about the critical role SocialScape® plays in providing measurement for their full-lifecycle SDOH programs; and Hosanna at CareFirst talked about how SocialScape has enabled them to better understand relationships between the different social determinants of health and how they typically don’t exist in silos.

These examples just scratch the surface. The conversation covered so much more to give attendees a greater understanding of how social risk analytics can be applied to tailor and scale SDOH initiatives that will have the most significant impact.
